Tucked in the heart of downtown Delano, The Whiskey Jar is more than just a place to grab a drink — it’s a place to gather. Inspired by the warm, welcoming spirit of traditional Irish pubs, we’ve created a space that’s casual, inviting, and just a little upscale — where the food is crafted with care and the whiskey is always flowing.

Opened in December 2024, The Whiskey Jar brings a fresh take on the local pub experience. Our custom-built interior blends comfort and character, designed to be the kind of spot where friends meet, stories are shared, and strangers become regulars.

We serve up a menu full of bold, scratch-made dishes — from comfort food classics to seasonal specials — along with a wide selection of craft beer, specialty cocktails, and over 100 whiskeys to explore. Every plate and pour is thoughtfully prepared, with an emphasis on quality and hospitality.

Whether you’re here for lunch, a weeknight dinner, or live music on the weekends, we’re here to make it memorable. Come as you are, stay for a while, and experience what makes The Whiskey Jar a true neighborhood favorite.

The Curt and Helen Peterson Family moved to Fall Harvest Orchard in 1976. They started with a roadside stand and gradually added attractions, including a wagon ride and our lovable farm animals. Mike and Darcy Sjomeling and their three boys purchased Fall Harvst Orchard in 2015. As frequent visitors to the orchard, they believed Curt and Helen built a special place and wanted to carry on the tradition. Today, Fall Harvest Orchard is one of the largest Minnesota fall festivals! It is consistently rated one of the best apple orchards in Minnesota and has been voted best of Delano area for 3 years. We are honored and humbled by all your support.

Chislic Festival Story

We are beyond excited for the 7th Annual South Dakota Chislic Festival which will be held on Saturday, July 26 at Freeman’s 40-acre Prairie Arboretum from 10AM to 9PM. The festival committees are busy preparing a chislic-day filled with food, beverages, activities, and entertainment for all ages. The SDCF will again have its own booth serving chislic. This year, we are excited the SDCF will be the provider of all alcohol at the festival, with proceeds directly supporting the festival infrastructure. You do not want to miss this event. See you there!

Our vision is to develop the South Dakota Chislic Festival into the region’s premier food festival by providing an exemplary experience in all facets of our festival.

The tradition of chislic comes not from cities, the wealthy or the privileged, but from the rural, hardworking farm tradition of the Germans from Russia people. We thrive on the rural, while building the region through vibrant community.

The South Dakota Chislic Festival began in 2018 with a desire to promote Freeman and the greater Chislic Circle, building on the food and heritage of our region. We were totally overwhelmed by the massive influx of people from all over the country. The lines were long and slow. Parking was crowded. We listened to the feedback. And the festival board regrouped, and so much more.

With 10 months of planning to get it right, the 2019 festival feedback proved we did just that….. We got it right. The 2nd Annual festival was a resounding success.

Like many other events, the 2020 Chislic Festival was impacted by COVID-19. In April 2020, the Festival board voted to suspend their plans to host the 2020 Chislic Festival. The safety of everyone concerned was the primary reason for this decision.

The festivals in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 were a resounding success. We hope to make the sixth annual festival on Saturday, July 26th the best experience yet. We hope to see you there!
